SD-WAN vs MPLS: Real-world comparison

We're evaluating whether to stick with our MPLS network or migrate to SD-WAN for our multi-site organization. For those who have experience with both, what are the real-world pros and cons? How significant were the cost savings? Any performance or reliability issues with SD-WAN compared to MPLS?
